After 2011's high water all season long, I've been counting the days until our sandbars finally returned. If you paddled with us from about 2004-2010, you'll remember we regularly had sandbars from August through the end of the season. High water the last few years has allowed the sandbars to remain elusive.
Now that its January, the river has finally dropped enough and the big sandbar across from Rocheport is finally resurfacing. I couldn't resist paddling out there last week to scout for arrow heads and just to enjoy one of my favorite places on Earth.
The winter air was cutting like knives, but it felt oh so good to be back on the river.
It is always invigorating to get out there and enjoy the Mighty Mo!
